class Descriptions

Twinkle Star Method Preschool (Ages 3-4) and Kindergarten (Ages 5-6):  An age specific 45 minute class containing ballet, tap and jazz/creative movement. The purpose of the class is to introduce young dancers to the three styles of dance and inspire movement and creativity within a positive environment. Dancers will also learn basic steps and terminology in all three styles. For example, all dancers will learn what a “plie” is and how to demonstrate one. The use of fun, age appropriate music engages the young dancers’ minds and bodies. The use of props such as hula hoops and teddy bears make the class so much fun for the little ones!
Required attire: leotard and tights, pink leather ballet shoes and tan tap shoes.

Level 1, 2, and 3 Combination (Ages 6-9): Combination classes are continuing Ballet and Tap.  Students in combination classes may take an optional jazz class.  The emphasis is on more technical studies as they develop further poise, balance and coordination.  Students will do two dances in our annual recital. Required attire: leotard and tights, pink leather ballet shoes and tan tap shoes.

Ballet (Ages 10 and up):  Ballet is the foundation of all dance subjects.  With the exception of Hip Hop and Poms, Ballet is required to take all other classes.  Students need the basics learned in ballet to polish and perfect a higher degree of dancing skills.  Ballet students will perform one dance in our annual recital. Required attire: leotard and tights, pink canvas split soled ballet shoes.

Jazz (Ages 7 and up):  Emphasis is on learning more difficult combinations while working on showmanship and becoming a more stylized dancer.  Correct technique is stressed while performing more difficult choreography.  Jazz dancers will perform one dance in our annual recital. Ballet is required to take any jazz class. Required attire: leotard and tights. Form fitting shorts and tank tops are also allowed over leotard and tights. Tan slip on jazz shoes.

Tap (Ages 10 and up):  Tap skills are stressed such as clarity of sound and the speed at which the steps are performed.  Tap students will perform one dance in the annual recital.  Ballet is required to take any tap class. Required attire: leotard and tights. Form fitting shorts and tank tops are also allowed over leotard and tights. Black or tan slip on tap shoes (specified in your class).
